And here is my answer to Claudia Strickreich's suggestion to consider a fair isle pattern for a man. There are certainly somewhere men around who can cope beautifully with floats. However, I don't know them.
The second picture shows the public side of the pattern. I used a fine pure new wool (BSK superwash, if I remember correctly) in colour silver, and some Schachenmayr Regia 4ply sock yarn in blue with coloured sections.
