Aufgrund eines AnSTuPsers von Annie musste ich für ein bestimmtes Projekt passendes Garn beschaffen, denn in meinem Vorrat war nichts Geeignetes vorhanden.
Heute stattete ich dem örtlichen Wollgeschäft einen Besuch ab. Dem Verkäufer (jawoll, ein Mann) schilderte ich genau, was ich suchte: Ein Farbverlaufsgarn und ein einfarbiges, geeignet für Nadelstärke 5 und eine ungefähre glatt-rechts-Maschenprobe von 18 Maschen auf 10 cm. Er zeigte mir mehrere Garne von ONLine und Gedifra, die aber für meinen Geschmack zu dick waren. Schließlich fanden sich in einer Ecke des Ladens zwei Pakete Gedifra “Riana”, eins in Dunkelbraun, eins in Beigetönen. Die nahm ich. Eine Maschenprobe ist bereits gestrickt und sieht vielversprechend aus.

Due to some initial support from Annie, I had to find a suitable yarn for a certain project, as I had nothing in my stash that would do.
Today, I paid a visit to the local yarn store. The shopkeeper (a man indeed) was informed that I needed a self-striping yarn and a plain one, suitable for 5 mm needles and yielding a swatch of 18 stitches per 10 cm. He showed me several yarns from ONLine and Gedifra, which I thought were too thick. Eventually he unearthed two packages of Gedifra “Riana” from a corner of the store, one in dark brown, the other in shades of beige. I bought them. A swatch is already done, looking promising.

Er ist fertig gestrickt, zusammengenäht, gewaschen und passt hervorragend: Der Paint Box Sweater aus “Knit one, stripe too”. In der Wäsche haben sich die Reihen zusammengezogen und die Maschen gestreckt, so dass die Gesamtlänge nun etwa 60 cm beträgt und die Weite 102 cm. Die Halsblende besteht aus drei Runden glatt links und rollt sich leicht nach innen um die Kante herum. Für den Bund habe ich kraus in Runden gestrickt, bis das Garn fast aufgebraucht war.
Das Garn (Noro Cashmere Island) ist so weich, dass man es auch problemlos auf der Haut verträgt. Der einzige Nachteil dieses Pullovers: Die Farben stehen mir überhaupt nicht. Blau, Grau und Lila sind nichts für mich. Ich werde ihn deshalb verschenken.
Mich wundert ein wenig, dass offenbar kaum jemand bisher diesen Pulli gestrickt hat. Das hat er eigentlich nicht verdient. Zugegeben, er ist einfach zu stricken und keine große Herausforderung für Freunde von üppigen Mustern. Dafür sind die senkrechten Streifen auch für fülligere Figuren kleidsam, und Garne mit langem Farbverlauf kommen damit gut zur Geltung. In the wash, the rows tightened and the stitches extended so that the length now is about 60 cm and the width 102 cm. The neckband is made of three rounds of purl stitches, it turns slightly to the inside around the neck edge. For the waistband, I worked in rounds of garter stitch until the yarn was almost used up.
The yarn (Noro Cashmere Island) is so soft you can wear it next to your skin. The only drawback of this garment: The colours don’t suit me at all. Blue, gray and purple are not for me. This sweater will be given to someone else.
I’m a bit surprised that hardly anybody seems to have knitted this garment. It does not deserve this neglection. Admittedly, it is easy to knit and not a challenge for those who like opulent patterning. But the vertical stripes are becoming even for more corpulent figures, and self-striping yarns with longer repeats come into their own here.
