Eine Consommé double royal ist eine sehr feine, konzentrierte klare Fleischbrühe mit einer Einlage aus Eierstich. Mein Projekt heißt so, weil es die Zweitausgabe eines Lieblingspullovers in Royalblau wird.
Den ersten seiner Art habe ich vor über 17 Jahren, nämlich im Januar 1991, für eine sehr liebe Person gestrickt. Das Original war ein Raglanpullover mit rundem Ausschnitt, glatt rechts, gestrickt aus einem royalblauen Leinen-Acryl-Gemisch. Mittlerweile ist das gute Stück aber derart abgetragen, dass dringend ein Ersatz her muss.
Das Garn von damals ist seit langem nicht mehr erhältlich, und den neuen Pulli wollte ich eigentlich aus dem selbst zusammengezwirnten Garn stricken, über das ich neulich geschrieben hatte. Von der Haptik her wäre es ein guter Ersatz gewesen. Aber die Ergebnisse waren bekanntlich optisch nicht überzeugend, so dass ich meine Vorräte nach geeigneterem Material durchsuchte. Ich stieß auf 500 g königsblaue Merinowolle mit einer Lauflänge von 300 m auf 100 g, also 1.500 m. Das entspricht ziemlich genau der Meterzahl, die ich für den ursprünglichen Pullover gebraucht hatte. Der Schnitt bleibt derselbe, auch an den Maßen muss nichts geändert werden. Nur die Maschenprobe weicht etwas ab. Die Maschenzahl ist zwar gleich, aber ich benötige in der neuen Version mehr Reihen, obwohl ich mit derselben Maschenweite stricke.
Vorsichtshalber habe ich mit dem Rückenteil angefangen und dann den ersten Ärmel gestrickt. Jetzt sind vom fünften Knäuel noch 10 g übrig, fast exakt die Hälfte der Partie ist verbraucht.
Hoffentlich reicht der kleine Rest noch für die Halsblende, sonst habe ich ein Problem.
A consommee double royal is a very fine beef broth garnished with a kind of custard. My project got its name because it is the second edition of a royal blue favourite sweater. The first one was made more than 17 years ago, in January 1991, for a very dear person. The original was a plain round neck raglan sweater in a royal blue linen-acrylics mix. Meanwhile, it is well worn down and urgently needs a replacement.
The yarn from way back when is long since discontinued, and I had planned to knit the new sweater from the threads I mentioned recently. The swatches felt nice to the touch and would have been a suitable replacement, had it not been for the look. So i dived into my stash and unearthed 500 g royal blue merino wool with a metrage of 300 m per 100 g, 1,500 m altogether. That is almost exactly the length I used for the first sweater. The shape remains the same, no need to change any measurements, but the gauge is slightly different. Although I need the same number of stitches, I have to knit more rows.
To be on the safe side, I started with the back and continued with the first sleeve. I’ve almost used up the fifth ball so far, there’s only 10 g left of it. So it’s half time, and I only hope the small amount will be sufficient for the neckband, or I’m going to have a problem.
