In meinem Vorrat befinden sich noch etwa 300 g “Linie 56” Mohairgarn von ONLine in Lachs, und in der Herbst-Ausgabe von “Sabrina Stricktrends” fand ich die Anleitung für eine Wickeljacke (Nr. 41), die aus einem Garn mit exakt derselben Zusammensetzung und geringfügig weniger Lauflänge besteht. So lag es nahe, die Anleitung als Anhaltspunkt zu verwenden, und frohgemut machte ich mich ans Stricken einer Maschenprobe. Das Lochmuster ist als Diagramm gegeben. Aber so leicht sollte es doch nicht werden.
Es fing damit an, dass ich wie eine Blöde nach der Zeichenerklärung suchte. Ein einziges Symbol ist beim Musterdiagramm erklärt, und man muss erst mal darauf kommen, dass alle weiteren Symbole am Ende des Anleitungsteils erläutert werden. Naja, ich hab’s dann schließlich gefunden.
Dann kam ich ins Grübeln, weil beim Zusammenstricken immer 2 M links zusammengestrickt werden sollen. Nichts gegen diese Methode, aber wenn in einem Lochmuster über eine größere Fläche die Maschen immer nur in einer Richtung zusammengestrickt werden, dann liegt so ein Teil nicht mehr gerade, sondern es schrägelt erbärmlich. Folglich änderte ich das Muster ab, und weil ich nicht gern links verschränkt zusammenstricke, stellte ich die Abnahmen auf Rechtsverkehr um.
Anstelle eines Umschlags sollen in diesem Muster immer zwei gemacht werden, einer davon wird einfach fallengelassen, wohl um die Löcher zu vergrößern. Nach einem Mustersatz fand ich, dass das ziemlich unordentlich aussieht, und beließ es bei jeweils einem Umschlag.
Das Muster selbst ist ein ziemlich simples Rautenmuster, also gerade richtig für langhaariges Mohairgarn, bei dem komplexe Strukturen sowieso nicht zur Geltung kommen. Aus unerfindlichen Gründen hat die Designerin aber Linksmaschen daruntergemischt, und mindestens eine davon ist höchst unlogisch, um nicht zu sagen, bestimmt verkehrt (11. Reihe, 1. Masche).
Ich bin ja duldsam und probiere so mancherlei. Zwei Mustersätze lang versuchte ich es mit den Linksmaschen, dann gab ich auf und machte auf meine Weise weiter. Nun habe ich das Rautenmuster vereinfacht, soweit es nur ging, ich stricke es glatt rechts, die Abnahmen sind symmetrisch, und es sieht für meine Begriffe viel besser aus. Jetzt muss ich nur noch die Maschen und Reihen umrechnen und hoffe, dass wenigstens der Schnitt keine Fehlkonstruktion ist.

I’ve got about 300 g of “Linie 56” salmon coloured ONLine mohair yarn in my stash, and the autumn issue of “Sabrina Stricktrends” has the instruction (no. 41) for a wrap cardi made of a yarn with exactly the same components and a little bit less yardage. So it seemed obvious to use the instruction as a starting point, and happily I embarked upon a tension swatch. The pattern is given in chart form. But it was not meant to be so simple.
For a start, I tried like mad to find the explanations for the symbols. One single symbol was explained below the diagram, and you must find out yourself that the rest is given at the end of the instructions part, 25 pages later. Well, I finally found it.
Then I started to ponder because all decreases were purl2 together. Now I don’t object to purling 2 together, but not over a larger area, for the knitting will bias miserably. Consequently I modified the pattern, and as I’m not fond of purling 2 together through the back loop, I changed all purl decreases to knit.
Instead of one yarn over, this pattern calls for two each time; one of them is dropped in the next row. After one repeat the large holes looked so untidy to me that I choose to only do one yarn-over.
The pattern itself is a rather simple diamond, perfectly right for a bulky mohair weight which would not show more complex structures. But for reasons incomprehensible to me the designer mixed purl stitches along the rows, and at least one of them ist quite illogically placed, if not downright wrong (11th row, 1st stitch).
I’m indulgent and prepared to try a lot. For two pattern repeats I tried the purl stitch thing, then I gave up and continued my way. Now I’ve simplified the diamond pattern as much as possible, it’s plain knitting, the decreases are symmetrical and the (w)hole thing looks much better in my opinion. Now it’s time to calculate rows and stitches, and I hope that at least the cardi shape is not faulty.
