Mittlerweile stricke ich gern Socken (passt natürlich auch auf Pullover und Co.) nach englischen Anleitungen; dabei fällt mir auf, dass oft Nadelstärke/Garnwahl nicht immer für 4-fädiges Sockengarn passt – z.B. werden für die Denmark Socken aus Knitting on the Road von Nancy Bush 3,25mm Nadeln und Garn mit 120m/50g verwendet. Da das Internet ja unglaubliche Möglichkeiten bietet, werde ich mir diese Socken über Google und Flickr ansehen, um herauszubekommen, wie andere das gehändelt haben. Wie hälst du das … schaust du dir vorher auch über das Netz das Strickstück vorher an, um dir Tipps zu holen?

Die üblichen schick gestylten Modellfotos in Büchern und Zeitschriften lassen meist nicht viel über den tatsächlichen Sitz einer Jacke oder eines Pullovers erahnen. Deshalb finde ich es hilfreich, ein bestimmtes Kleidungsstück auch mal an einem Menschen mit normalen Proportionen zu sehen. Dafür ist z.B. Ravelry gut geeignet.
Ansonsten verlasse ich mich auf meinen gesunden Menschenverstand und gewisse Erfahrungswerte. Ich weiß mittlerweile recht gut, was mir steht oder was einfach unpraktisch ist, und entsprechend wähle ich meine Strickprojekte aus. Sofa-Socken aus Luxusgarnen oder Jacken in Form eines Buckminster-Fullerens stehen z.B. ganz oben auf meiner bloß-nicht-Liste.

The usual fancy and stylish photos in books and magazines do not reveal much of a garment’s real fit. That’s why I find it helpful to see a garment on a normally shaped person. Ravelry is a good source
for this.
Otherwise I rely on my common sense and a certain experience. By now I know quite well what suits me or what is simply impractical, and I choose my knitting projects accordlingly. Sofa socks made of luxury yarns or jackets the shape of a buckminsterfullerene, e.g., are on top of my no-never-list.
