Handstrick-Socken – Hand-knit Socks

Keine Ahnung, welcher Teufel mich geritten hat, beim Yarnissima “Gush” Socken-Knitalong mitzumachen. Erstens habe ich wirklich noch nie richtige Socken von Hand gestrickt, und zweitens ist dieses Muster nichts für schwache Nerven. Es ist asymmetrisch, besteht zu einem großen Teil aus verschränkten Maschen und ist so rhythmisch und einprägsam wie ein Musikstück von Arnold Schönberg.
Das alles wusste ich natürlich nicht, als der erste Teil veröffentlicht wurde. Und so kämpfte ich mich tapfer durch die Anleitung. An dieser Stelle ein großes Lob an die Designerin: Die Anleitung ist so präzise und ausführlich, dass auch ein kompletter Socken-Depp wie ich danach stricken kann. Die erste Socke ist inzwischen vollendet und sieht sehr schön aus. Und dann stand ich vor der Frage, ob ich die zweite ebenso oder gegengleich stricken sollte.
Da ich ein Symmetrie-Freak bin, entschied ich mich schließlich fürs gegengleiche Stricken. Das ist eine besondere Herausforderung, denn es gibt zwar aufgespiegelte Diagramme in der Anleitung, jedoch muss man schon selbst überlegen, wie man sie korrekt verteilt. Hoffentlich schaffe ich das.

I’ve got no idea what the hell came over me and made me participate in Yarnissima’s “Gush” knitalong. First of all, I’ve never ever knitted socks by hand, and secondly, this pattern is not for the faint-hearted. It is asymmetrical, it consists to a large extent of stitches through the back loop, and it is as rhythmic and catchy as a composition by Arnold Schönberg.
Of course, I knew nothing of this when the first part of the instruction was published, and therefore I struggled my way through it. Kudos to Yarnissima! The instructions are so precise and comprehensive that even a complete sock dork like me can do it. The first sock is finished and looks lovely. And then I had to decide whether to work the second one the same way or mirrored.
As I am a symmetry freak, I opted for the mirrored version. This is a real challenge because although there are mirrored charts in the instruction, the arrangement is not clearly specified. I hope I’ll manage.
