Dies ist ein klassisches Anleitungsbuch. Es enthält 25 Pullover und Jacken für Männer und Frauen, die alle aus Rowan Garnen auf Brother Strickmaschinen mit 4,5 mm Nadelabstand, meistens mit Lochkartenautomatik, gestrickt wurden. Die Entwürfe stammen von bekannten britischen Designern wie Carrie White, Edy Lyngaas, Sarah Dallas, Erika Knight oder Rachel Grimmer und tragen auch deren typische Handschrift. Sie sind bis auf wenige Ausnahmen jeweils in drei Größen beschrieben. Einige sind einfarbig, andere enthalten mehr als zehn verschiedene Farben. Die Materialien sind unterschiedlich, ebenso wie der Schwierigkeitsgrad. Die meisten Modelle sind in Norwegertechnik gestrickt, aber man findet auch Fang-, Vorlege- und Lochmuster. Alle sind tragbar, wenn auch natürlich inzwischen in Schnitt und Stil nicht mehr modern, und die Garne sind auch nicht mehr erhältlich. Um sich inspirieren zu lassen, ist diese Buch aber trotzdem bestens geeignet. Hätte ich es nicht schon, würde ich es mir sofort kaufen.

This is a classic instruction book. It contains 25 sweaters and cardigans for men and women, all made with Rowan yarns on Brother standard gauge punchcard knitting machines. The garments were designed by renowned British designers like Carrie White, Edy Lyngaas, Sarah Dallas, Erika Knight or Rachel Grimmer, and they bear their typical handwriting. With some exceptions, they are given in three different sizes each. Some are knit in one colour only, others in more than ten colours. The yarns are different, as is the difficulty. Most of the garments are knit in fair isle technique, but there is also tuck stitch, slip stitch and lace. All of them are wearable, although meanwhile out of date in shape and style, and the yarns are no longer available. Nonetheless, this book is perfectly suited to find inspiration. If I did not already own it, I would buy it immediately.
There are several errors in the book. I bought it when it first came out as my introduction to machine knitting! I spent many a day driving over to the Rowan mill for corrections. I still have the original hand – typed corrections. In spite of the errors, it remains my favourite pattern book, and I learned a lot from it. Some of the designs are timeless, and patterning is inspirational. My husband would probably leave if I got rid of it because of the Edy Lyngass Norwegian sweater, which is his all – time favourite sweater, in its 7th incarnation.
